‘Keep painting, keep writing’,
my friend Darrell told me.
This on a day when the news was grim,
when we learned that Kofi Awoonor was gone.
When death permeated the air and
madness ruled the world.
Dozens dead in Kenya, dozens more in Pakistan,
countless others dead in countless other places.
Madness and death, senseless slaughters.
Unfathomable pain and suffering.
‘Keep painting, keep writing’, Darrell said,
‘It is our best defense against madness.’
