Somewhere Around Dusk

by Joseph D. Reich

i like the image
        of juggling
knives & guns
        while doing
impersonations
      of madmen
& nuns
      in the crisp
autumn season
          without a home
finally at last
        no longer
on-the-run.
        when i’m done
bending over to puke
      over the old
pea-soup
      staticy television
with crib notes
        of past girlfriends
& one-night stands
        neatly stacked
in my back pocket
           doing shout-outs
to god,
        william blake
& t.s. elliot.
          heat kicks on
from the radiator
        under the twinkling
sycamores of fall
        wino winks at me
& falls dead asleep
        on the park bench–
“yes only love
        can break
your heart”
