Chincoteague

by Mike Jewett

charleyhorses
hurt like wild
chincoteague
ponies bearing
fruits of our
labours; manes
haggard, dead ends

flailing as spiders
caught in their own
webs of deceit. This,
too, shall pass for
monitoring things
is not their forté.
