Remembering Dickinson

by Brooke McLain

Fly—
I really must beg forgiveness—
But I’ll be late.
I finally finished with her highness—
So many terrified shrieks pain me.
I see you just beyond this crowd—
Wish me luck.
I’m sorry if the funeral is loud.
I cannot guarantee to hold my sting.
