Mother & Child

by Kimberly Gladman Jackson

You are an organ
Of my body, yet fly free
On thin wings. Who knows
How my words touch deeds will shape
What will soon have been your youth?

Though I can’t recall
The day we met, your heart beats
Always in my ears.
Will its solace echo still
If I soar beyond the moon?
