Saving Grace

by Kimberly Gladman Jackson

Under the mantle
of worry
bills and fights
far below
the dry plates
of schedule
and snipe
there is a molten core:
slick
and
igneous
pulsing
with sudden laughs
flush of skin
pull of magnet
that steers the poles,
although its
silent force
is only known–
act of reason,
act of faith—
from the shape
of waves
that ripple
through the crust
of doubt
