Two Untitled Poems

by Joseph James Cawein

The mannequins were in odd positions

they stood about gazing each other in the face

with their arms calmly resting at their side

and the store manager didn’t know what to do

so he simply let them keep on staring

                until one spoke

and he ran to the parking lot screaming bloody murder

and never took a job in retail again

I shoplifted last night

and the man behind the counter

snarled at me

and i had a sudden vision

of a field full of white flowers

                melting in sunshine
