At Three

by Sophie Alexis

Like clockwork,
the day begins at 3
when the light goes tick
and the air is thick
and no one is looking at me

They know I’m coming
as I slam the door
Be aware of me!
Be scared of me–
and never ask for more!

Your clever ways of life
are laughter to me
‘Cause I’m blind
So blind
to all the feel that I see

What makes you think
I’d want to hear
what makes you rise;
who gives you fear?

You don’t need luck
when you own the game;
And the players can’t win
’cause it’s always the same

Give it up, kid
it ain’t no use–
You’re gonna die,
they’re gonna lie,
and I’m the living proof
